In 2021, the WHO declared that AMR is one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity. The risk of AMR among low-income communities in urban areas is exponentially higher. In the contexts where testing for AMR is not widespread presently, environmental surveillance presents the potential to be a complementary tool to test and analyse the prevalence of AMR within populations at a community level. Through the Alliance, we are working to build and gather evidence for the potential of environmental surveillance for AMR.
